There are two main ways of determining blood gas values: regular blood sampling or the use of monitoring systems. However, existing systems were often complex and provided the staff with little support in operating them.

On-Site Visits

The project began with on-site visits, during which we got to know the work environment and processes of the healthcare professionals on site.

On the basis of the work processes, the first wireframes were created, which depict the main tasks of the users screen by screen.

UX-Test and Focus Groups

The wireframes were then tested in focus groups and formative studies with healthcare professionals to ensure that the result is safe but also efficient and highly appreciated by the users.

THE RESULT

The new blood gas monitor is based on direct manipulation and thus enables all important functions within fewer clicks. The appealing design inspires users and the built-in tutorials help to get to know the device on-site and very easy.

Documentation

Since it is a medical device, all steps were documented in the usability engineering file for regulatory clearance. In addition, a style guide was created that enables easy implementation and expansion.
