What can you expect from participating?
Your time is compensated.
For every completed study, you receive compensation of at least $90 per hour. The exact amount depends on the individual study – for example, its duration and scope, your professional background, any required preparation or training, and whether the study takes place remotely or on-site.
You will always receive full details about the compensation and requirements before deciding whether to participate.
You can participate remotely or in person.
Many studies can be completed conveniently from home using your own computer. Others take place on-site.
Your invitation will always tell you where and how the study will be conducted.

When a suitable study becomes available, we will first send you all the relevant information. You can then decide at your own pace whether you would like to participate.

What happens during a usability study?
You test products from your professional perspective: Depending on the study, you may work with a medical device, prototype, app, medical software, or instructions for use. You complete typical tasks in a realistic or simulated use scenario and provide feedback based on your professional experience.
We’re testing the product – not you: These are not clinical trials or medical treatments. No medical procedures will be performed on you or by you, and you will not be asked to take any medication or similar substances.
The focus is on how understandable, safe, and user-friendly a product is in its intended use. Your feedback helps improve medical devices and digital health solutions.
Does your professional background align with our studies?
For our studies, we are looking for healthcare professionals from a wide range of professions, specialties, work environments, and experience levels.
For example: physicians, nurses, surgeons, surgical technologists, medical assistants, paramedics, pharmacists, laboratory professionals, and dentists.
The profiles we need depend on the individual study.
What this means for you: Register once, and we will contact you whenever an upcoming study may match your profile. You do not have to participate in every study, and registering does not commit you to anything.

Enter your email address and answer a few short questions about your professional background. This helps us understand which studies may be a good match for your profile.
02. Receive an invitation & make a decision
If a study matches your profile, you will receive all the important information in advance – including the process, duration, participation format, and compensation. You decide whether you would like to participate.
03. Participate & Get Paid
Participate in studies that take place either remotely or on-site. Once you have completed your participation, you will receive the previously agreed-upon compensation.
Frequently Asked Questions About Participation
Is that a job?
No.
Registration is not a job application and does not create an employment relationship with Custom Medical or any of our clients.
You register as a private individual for possible participation in individual studies. You will receive compensation for each study you take part in.
Does my participation have anything to do with my employer?
No.
Registration and any participation in a study are independent of your employer. You participate as a private individual and decide for yourself whether and when a study you are invited to is right for you.
Can I participate even if I'm not an expert?
No.
This registration is exclusively for Healthcare Professionals.
If you are not a Healthcare Professional, you can instead register for usability tests with lay users at
www.nutzer-tests.de. The platform is currently only available in German.
Are these clinical trials or medical treatments?
No.
This is not a clinical study or medical treatment. This means that no medical procedures will be performed on you or by you, and you will not be asked to take any medication or similar substances.

How much is the compensation?
Our compensation is at least $90 per hour. For certain specialties or highly specialized profiles, the rate may be significantly higher.
The exact amount depends on factors such as the duration and scope of the study, your professional background, any required preparation or training, and whether the study takes place remotely or on-site.
You will always be informed in advance about how much you will receive for a specific study and what participation involves.
Can I participate from home?
Many of our studies are conducted online and can be completed on your own laptop.
Other studies require in-person participation.
You will always find out which format is planned in the admission letter.
Do I have to attend if I receive an invitation?
No.
Every invitation is non-binding. You will first receive all relevant information about the study and can then decide whether you would like to participate.
How often will I be contacted?
This depends on the studies currently running and your professional profile.
We may contact you several times within a year, or there may be longer periods when no suitable study is available.
What happens to my data?
We use the information you provide to match your profile with the requirements of future studies and contact you when a suitable opportunity becomes available. If you no longer wish to participate, you can request to have your data deleted at any time.

Is there a referral bonus?
For selected studies, we may also offer a referral bonus. You will receive the bonus if you refer someone with a suitable profile who then participates in the study.
Whether a referral bonus is available, how much it is, and which conditions apply will be included in the respective study invitation.
The bonus is typically $20 to $50 per successful referral.
Do I have to participate myself in order to recommend someone?
No.
For studies that offer a referral bonus, you can also refer a suitable person without participating in the study yourself.
How can I recommend someone for a study?
How do I make the payment?
Payments are generally made via PayPal.
If you live in Germany, you can alternatively choose to receive your compensation by bank transfer. If you do not have your own PayPal account, you may provide the account details of someone you trust.
